This is the concept model of a “Monster Flower” that I’ve made for the Artist/Designer Marcin Rusak
The model is part of his project: “Flowering Transition”, which has been showed in the Show RCA 2014.
The model has been sculpted based on several 3D scan references.
At first, different species of real flowers have been manually assembled by the Flower Engineer Andreas Verheijen, and then 3D scanned to get references for the branches in the final composition.
Due to the difficulties we had in gaining good scans from these particular objects,
a big part of the work I’ve done, in term of time consuming, consisted in repairing, correcting, and retopologizing all the meshes obtained through 3D scan,
I’ve composed the flower in Mudbox; all the different parts have been scaled, posed, or in some cases sculpted from zero, in order to make a good composition. All the resulting meshes, at the base level, have been sent to the 3ds max, to seal those in a single object, and reimported it on Mudbox for the detail transferring, and the following refining.
The final model of the Monster-Flower has been subdivided again for a better fit by the requirements of the 3D printing machine.
